At first glance, you might be confused as to how to tell time on the Ora
Unica, but it’s actually quite simple. Just look at the position of the
inner end of the squiggle for the current hour, and the outer end for
minutes. Simple, elegant, and truly unique.
36mm stainless steel case, leather bracelet and water resistant to 3ATM/30m.
The Ora Unica, designed by Denis Guidone for the Milanese Nava Design of Italy,
is an accessory that takes fun of the time, for design lovers that make
the imagination and the irony their distinguishing feature. A curious
object not to pass unnoticed, a detail that Nava chooses for its spirit
of irony. The design is clean and minimalist and finds its ultimate
expression in the unconventional reading of time. It consists of a
single line forming a graphic gesture (squiggle) where the two ends mark
hours and minutes. The Ora Unica does away
with conventional hands, and
replaces them with a big squiggly line.
A watch with whirlwind hands that build a very unusual moving geometry to indicate time. (See the animation below).
Because not every timepiece has to be
foreboding and serious, Denis Guidone's watches play with the
traditional expectation of what a
timepiece should be. Designed in collaboration with Italian product
brand Nava Design, his four contributions–the Ora, Ora Lattea, Ora
Unica, and
Tempo Libero–all feature unique design cues, signaling (sometimes with
the use of traditional hands) what the time is. For example, the Ora
Lattea uses dots, placed where a traditional hand would usually end,
while the Ora Unica’s squiggly line’s ends go in place of hands.
